Music Principles

The first principle was “Music is not an end in itself but is a means for achieving larger ends.” Another was “Music as a group activity is more important than music as an individual accomplishment.” He also wrote that the necessary question to ask was not “‘Is it good music?’ but ‘What is the music good for?’; and if it bids fair to aid in the welding of the people into more independent, capable and democratic action, it must be approved.”
